    I was saddened to learn of the recent death of Shirley Anne Groves. The tribute in the The Pharmaceutical Journal of 19 July 2014 covers her career from November 1973 but Shirley had a professional life before then. She was a member of the talented team of young, mainly female, pharmacists it was my privilege to lead at Nottingham City Hospital.     We were sorry to learn of the death of our former colleague, Shirley Groves.  She joined the West Berkshire District Health Authority in November 1973 and was the highly respected Principal Pharmacist of Battle Hospital, Reading and subsequently Principal Pharmacist for Community Services with the Royal Berkshire Hospital, a role to which she brought her considerable professional knowledge and charisma.  She took early retirement at the end of March 1993.  Our sympathies are with her daughter
