GPhC chief executive, Duncan Rudkin, acknowledged the hard work of tutors, and education and training providers in helping trainees pass the registration assessment

The pass rate for the registration assessment in September 2017 is more than 17 percentage points higher than last autumn, according to results released by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

The regulatory body for pharmacy has announced that of the 825 candidates who sat its September registration assessment, 481 passed the assessment — a pass rate of 58.3%, compared with last year’s pass mark of 40.8%.

The pass rates for the papers were 76.0% for part one and 64.7% for part two.

Of the 825 candidates, 325 were sitting the assessment for the first time, 446 were sitting it for a second time and 54 candidates were sitting the exam for a third time. Preregistration trainee pharmacists are permitted three attempts at the registration assessment.

Chief executive of the GPhC, Duncan Rudkin, wished the trainees all the best for their future and acknowledged the tutors, and education and training providers for their hard work in helping trainees to reach this milestone.

“From the first day on our register, pharmacists play an integral role in supporting the health of their patients,” he said.

“The registration assessment helps to make sure that candidates have — and are able to demonstrate — the knowledge and skills to meet this important responsibility.”

The full list of candidates who passed the registration assessment is available here.
