Student pass rate jumps from 78% to 85% for summer registration exam

The pharmacy student pass rate for the summer registration exam has risen from 77.8% in 2013 to 85.3% in 2014.

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) said 2,549 candidates sat its registration assessment on the 27 June 2014, with 2,175 candidates passing.

The 2013 assessment saw many comments from students about the style and content of the exam. “It is pleasing to note that many of the recommendations made by the BPSA after the June 2013 examination have been acted upon and as a result the BPSA have received very little negative feedback for the registration assessment this year,” said Chloe O’Beirne, president of the British Pharmacy Students’ Association.

“Each year may have variances in the number of candidates who pass the exam depending on the mix of candidates,” a spokesperson for the GPhC said. The exam is set and moderated by an expert board of assessors, which benchmarks it against previous years to make sure outcomes are “fair and consistent”.
