Patients satisfied with pharmacists treating minor ailments

More than 80% of patients with minor ailments said their condition either cleared up or significantly improved after they were prescribed treatment by a community pharmacist[1]
, according to a Canadian study published online in the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice (16 June 2014).

Trust in the profession for treating minor conditions was the main reason patients saw a pharmacist, the research reveals.

Some 94% of the 125 patients from 90 community pharmacies in Saskatchewan who took part in the study said they were satisfied with the pharmacist’s care.

Cold sores were the most common minor ailment treated (34.4%) followed by insect bites (20%) and allergies (19.2%).
