People at the Pharmacy Show 2014

With a host of innovations planned for this year’s event, The Pharmacy Show will become the premier location for pharmacy professionals to share ideas, discuss pressing issues, debate hot topics and access free CPD. Over the two days of the show, visitors will be able to take advantage of over 60 education sessions across five conference streams, as well as source the latest technology, and range of products and services to support their businesses, or simply connect with leaders and peers in the industry.

This year the floor will host over 400 trade suppliers, including RB Healthcare, GSK, Lexon, Gollmann, Pfizer, Helix Health, Clover 51, ARX, , A.Vogel, Tillotts Pharma, with 100 new companies, including Sigma, Janssen Cilag and Gane Data to name just a few — so you can be sure to find new ideas and solutions from beauty and skincare to mobility and orthotics, blood pressure monitors and respiratory devices to automated dispensing and monitored dosage, plus with more than 100 product and service categories represented, you’re guaranteed to find it all there!

New for 2014 is the forum designed to support local pharmacy innovation. In this, Local Pharmacy Committee (LPCs), Local Pharmacy Network (LPNs), CCG and GP representatives will share successful innovation and best practice in services with pharmacy schemes covering flu vaccinations, dementia awareness, inhaler technique and self-care.

Another new innovation for 2014 is the Public Health & Wellbeing Forum, where experts in health and wellbeing will deliver sessions designed to help pharmacy teams offer proactive and pre-emptive healthcare advice, and to extend the role of OTC products and public health patient services in their pharmacies.

Running for eight years, the Pharmacy Show Keynote Theatre has become acknowledged as the leading stage for thought-provoking debate and comment.

In 2014, all key opinion leaders including the General Pharmaceutical Council, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, National Pharmacy Association, Public Health England, Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, Independent Pharmacy Federation, and the Pharmacists’ Defence Association are set to give their unique insights into pharmacy and its future role in the primary healthcare team and share their take on the key outcomes of the ‘Now or Never’ report.

Adding value to the discussions for 2014 will be the new ‘town hall’ style Q&A panel after each session, where visitors will pose questions and challenge presenters acting as the voice of the profession.

A packed programme of clinical education has been scheduled covering key therapy areas such as diabetes, obesity, asthma, cardiology, the ageing population and mental health issues. CPPE will be presenting their Consultation Skills programme to ensure the delivery of high quality, patient-centered consultations at every patient engagement, and case study based education will ensure that community pharmacists return to their pharmacies with practical information and support to deliver their new roles.

The Business Theatre will host a range of leading experts offering insight and education to help ensure pharmacies achieve business goals and improve efficiencies without compromising patient care. Sessions include:

  • Efficient tax planning and financial advice
  • Learn how to engage with your CCG and write effective business plan proposals
  • Be prepared for a successful pharmacy inspection
  • Buying or selling your pharmacy
  • Any Qualified Provider: Why? How?

To help consolidate learning, visitors can use Record Aid templates to document learning outcomes from each presentation, and then access an electronic version after the show, which can be uploaded for CPD records. All conference presentations (subject to presenter permissions) will also be made available to attendees free of charge after the show giving you the chance to access 60 CPD education sessions.

Show director Matthew Butler said: “With its packed schedule of world class education and the latest in technology and innovation from pharmacy’s leading suppliers and business partners, The Pharmacy Show continues to be the must-attend event in the pharmacy calendar. We are delighted to be playing our part as hosts to the key players and policy makers in community pharmacy service delivery, as the profession gears up to take advantage of this new era in NHS primary care.”
