Alex MacKinnon receives the Scottish Pharmacy Award

Alex MacKinnon, interim chief executive at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, has received Scottish Pharmacist’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy’ award at a ceremony held at Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre on 11 March 2017.

The awards are held every year to celebrate innovation, commitment and dedication to the profession.

The Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy award recognises an individual who has made a significant contribution to the pharmacy sector over a sustained career. The winner must also be a person who inspires their peers through leadership, determination and clarity of thought.

The award was presented to MacKinnon by Harry McQuillan, chief executive of Community Pharmacy Scotland, which represents community pharmacy owners throughout Scotland.

In a press release issued by Scottish Pharmacist, McQuillan said: “Alex was an obvious choice for this award, especially when you see how much he has achieved over the years for pharmacy. It’s been great to work with Alex over the years and I’m sure he still has plenty to offer Scottish pharmacy in the years to come.”

Accepting the award, MacKinnon said: “I had no idea that this was going to happen. It’s a great privilege, but I’m accepting it on behalf of all the people that I’ve worked with over the years. It’s all about teamwork and we have such a wonderful team in Scotland so it’s a privilege for me to accept it on behalf of all of them.”
