Tribute to Barbara van der Pant

Barbara’s many friends and colleagues were saddened to hear of her death.

Barbara graduated fro
m the School of Pharmacy, London in 1968 and trained at John Bell & Croydon, Wigmore Street, London. She pursued a career in hospital pharmacy at the Whittington, St Mary’s, Paddington, Heatherwood, Ascot, and High Wycombe where she worked both in the pharmacy department and later in the medical directorate.

After taking early retirement, Barbara continued to support patient care through regular locums in the Cookham and Maidenhead area.

Barbara was involved in the Slough and District local branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, where she held positions of secretary, treasurer and chairman at various times. She also represented the branch on the Chiltern region committee. When the region organised the British Pharmaceutical Conference in 1993, Barbara ensured things ran smoothly by taking on the role of “office manager” during the conference.

Wherever Bar
bara worked she brought a calm and thoughtful approach. She remained a solid supporter of pharmacy throughout her career, and as one of her colleagues said, “Barbara was a brilliant pharmacist, not afraid of hard work who taught me a great deal as a junior pharmacist”.

Our sympathy goes out to her partner, Gordon, and her family. She will be remembered with affection and respect by all who came into contact with her.

Following a private committal service, there will be a thanksgiving service at 12.30pm on Thursday 3 September 2015 at the Methodist Church, High Street, Maidenhe
ad SL6 1EF.
