Tribute to David Wood

It is an understatement to say that it was a great shock when I learned that David Wood had died suddenly on 16 February 2015 — he was only 37. David will be very greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues.

David graduated with a BSc in Pharmacology from King’s College London (King’s), and afterwards studied for his PhD in Drug Delivery in the pharmacy department at King’s. Upon completion of his PhD, David decided to teach science, first in the UK and then in Dubai. Upon his return to the UK, David rejoined the pharmacy department at King’s, where he combined his interest in teaching with his research into pedagogical techniques related to cultural awareness and sensitivity, as well as developing new, innovative educational interventions.

While at King’s, David supervised many MPharm undergraduate projects and helped run, in conjunction with the National Pharmacy Association, the ‘Ask Your Pharmacist’ event in London, managing more than 90 volunteers across nine different locations.

Early in 2014, David joined the Science team of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) where he was instrumental in the launch of the ‘New Medicines, Better Medicines, Better Use of Medicines’ guide. David was a pharmaceutical scientist member of the RPS and championed pharmaceutical science in everything he did.

But most of all, David was lively, enthusiastic and hardworking, and also incredibly kind and compassionate.
