Tribute to Geoffrey Stafford Knowles

I was sorry to read, in
The Pharmaceutical Journal (2015;294:710)
, of the death of Geoffrey Stafford Knowles.

I first met Geoffrey at the Ins
titute of Pharmacy Management conference at Aldeburgh, Suffolk, in the autumn of 1981 when he invited my wife and I to join him and Jean to accompany them to dinner on the first evening. This was typical of his demeanour and style and commencement of a long, happy and valuable relationship over the following years.

Geoffrey was prominent in pharmacy circles at the time, a member of the Statutory Committee of the Pharmaceutical Society and a leading figure in the Institute of Pharmacy Management, holding offices of chairman and secretary at various times.

Following Jean’s passing and w
ith age creep
ing up, contact became less frequent; however, I value our relationship over many years along with Geoffrey’s guidance and companionship.
