RPS launches ultimate guide for pharmacists working in care homes

Older person in care home

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has added to its ultimate guide series with a new guide for pharmacists working in care homes or for those who are interested in starting in the role.

The ultimate guide provides members with information about the different roles pharmacists have in providing care to residents in care homes and signposting to support tools and guidance that are available to help with the role. The guide also provides practical guidance, an overview of ethical issues – such as consent and safeguarding – information around managing and optimising medicines as well as a summary of the legal and regulatory framework relevant to care homes.

The guide has been developed with the help of a working group comprising members from England, Scotland and Wales, who have expertise in care homes and the work that pharmacists can do in optimising the care that care home residents receive.
