Sandra Gidley chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s English Pharmacy Board

Sandra Gidley has been affirmed as chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) English Pharmacy Board for a second term.

Gidley was nominated by fellow board member Catherine Armstrong, a primary care practice pharmacist, and seconded by newly re-elected board member Elizabeth Butterfield, a pharmacist consultant.

Following her re-election on 22 June 2016, Gidley said she was looking forward to working with the board for another year. “The last year was not without its challenges, it was a busy and challenging time for the whole profession and we had to cope with business as usual,” she said. “Now with some of our campaigns coming to an end we’ll be looking towards new campaigns and new ways of working. I’m looking forward to building on the success of our initial launches, such as the care home work, and making things happen with the RPS team in England.”

Academic Claire Anderson was re-elected unopposed for the position of vice-chair. Elizabeth Butterfield and David Branford were welcomed back to the board after they lost their seats in 2015 and Sharon ‘Sibby’ Buckle and David Carter returned after being re-elected.

Following the elections, the board discussed the 2015 decision to scrap sectoral places on the board and it was agreed that this would remain the case for 2017, although it was decided that the board would actively work to collaborate more closely with the RPS forums and advisory panels on topics and campaigns requiring an expert perspective.
