Sunscreen labelling

26 June 2015: The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has called for clearer labelling on sunscreens after a survey by the RPS revealed a worrying lack of understanding about the degree of sun protection different products provide.

The RPS spoke to national and regi
onal media, including BBC Radio 5Live, BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, BBC Breakfast, 15 BBC regional radio stations, Channel 5 News, ITV and Sky News.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast,
RPS chief scientist Jayne Lawrence said: “You can’t assume because you’ve got a high skin protection factor you’re getting a high protection against UVA, it’s far more complicated than that and that’s precisely why we want a much simpler labelling scheme that will allow the customer to be able to go into the shop, the pharmacy, pick up
the sunscreen and know exactly what level of protection they’re getting.”
