Source: Public Health England Fingertips portal In 2015, a third of Escherichia coli (or coliform) positive urine specimens in the community in England were resistant to trimethoprim. However, an increased emphasis on nitrofurantoin as first-line treatment in recent years has seen resistance to trimethoprim decrease. Resistance to nitrofurantoin has also seen a slight decline.
