Financial dealings of hospital locum agency HCL under spotlight

by News team

Locum agency HCL, which supplies the NHS with locums, including pharmacists, has suspended its finance director and founder following what it calls “serious accounting irregularities”. HCL says that payments to locums are unaffected.

The agency HCL confirmed in a statement that its board is investigating the company’s finances and in the meantime has suspended finance director Diane Jarvis and its executive vice-chairman and founder Kate Bleasdale.

In a statement the company said: “Serious accounting irregularities have been brought to the attention of the board as a result of which the company will be carrying out an immediate investigation to consider the financial implications.”

HCL said its day-to-day business was running as normal. A company spokesman said: “We can confirm absolutely that the business is running as normal and operations are unaffected. All payments to clients, locums and suppliers are being made as normal and the investigation . . . does not in any way reflect the way the business is run.”
