Further GP pathfinders announced

By News team

A further 89 groups of GP practices in England are to take on commissioning responsibilities as part of the Government’s pathfinder programme, joining the existing 52 pathfinders announced last year (PJ, 11 December 2010, p674).

The groups will work together to manage their local budgets and purchase services for patients, testing out the Government’s plans for GP consortia, which are due to take on statutory responsibilities from April 2013.

Together with the first wave, pathfinders will now cover over 50 per cent of the population.
