GPhC renewal deadline extended to tonight
A one-day extension has been made to the deadline for renewing registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council after technical difficulties prevented some registrants from completing the process in time for yesterday’s deadline (30 November 2010).
Renewals can be made until midnight tonight (1 December 2010) on the “My GPhC” website, which experienced technical issues yesterday, a GPhC spokesman told PJ Online.
By midnight last night 96.7 per cent of pharmacists had renewed their registration — which leaves around 1,450 who have not.
However, the spokesman pointed out that a 100 per cent renewal rate is not expected because there will be a number of registrants who choose not to remain on the Register.
Just over 93 per cent of pharmacy premises owners had renewed their licenses by the end of yesterday, and the GPhC plans to contact all those who have not done so after today’s extended deadline ends to remind them of their renewal requirement.
All registrants who miss the renewal deadline are urged to visit the My GPhC website, which will be updated with information about what they should do.
The spokesman said the GPhC will adopt a pragmatic approach to those who miss the deadline, but stressed that the strict renewal requirement “is about patient safety and maintaining the integrity of the Register”.
