Guidance on appropriate boundaries published

Guidance on maintaining appropriate sexual boundaries with bothpatients and their carers has been produced for pharmacists andregistered pharmacy technicians by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Guidance on maintaining appropriate sexual boundaries with both patients and their carers has been produced for pharmacists and registered pharmacy technicians by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (PDF 120K).

This specific guidance is based on publication in January 2008 of general guidance on the topic for all health professions by the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence.

Priya Sejpal, the Society’s head of professional ethics, said: “The consequences for patients when sexual boundaries are breached can be grave and crossing these boundaries can result in lasting harm to patients and could result in a lack of trust in not only the pharmacy profession, but also in healthcare professionals generally.”
