Mephedrone designated Class B drug
Mephedrone and related compounds in the cathione group are now banned. Following recommendation from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, the compounds are now classified as Class B drugs. The ban came into effect on 16 April 2010.
Advice from the Department of Health states that individuals who have taken the drug and have acute toxic effects should be referred to accident and emergency, whereas less severe problems should be managed symptomatically.
