National breast cancer awareness campaign to launch next week
Pharmacy teams are being encouraged to get involved in a national “Be clear on cancer” campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer in women over 70 years old. The campaign, which is being led by Public Health England in partnership with NHS England and the Department of Health, is encouraging people to see their GP earlier and will run from 3 February to 16 March 2014.
The NHS is also piloting a “Be clear on cancer campaign”, from 10 February to 16 March 2014, in the north west of England to raise awareness of persistent bloating as a symptom of ovarian cancer in women over 50 years of age.
Other “Be clear on cancer” campaigns running in the first part of 2014 include a national lung cancer reminder campaign (10 March to 31 March), an oesophago-gastric cancer campaign in adults aged over 50 in the north east and border television regions (10 February to 9 March) and a local skin cancer campaign in the south west (mid-March to the end of April).
Further information, such as how pharmacy teams can support the campaigns and how to order free posters and leaflets to help promote the campaigns, can be accessed via the Cancer Research UK website.
