Liz Fidler will be president of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK from 9 February 2019

The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) has appointed a new president following the departure of Tess Fenn in 2018.

The incoming APTUK president, Liz Fidler, was previously the associate dean for quality at Health Education England, working across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Fidler has led many national projects for pharmacy technician development, including accuracy checking for community pharmacy technicians, securing funding for Pharmacy Integration Fund projects and leading on the development of the new pharmacy technician qualification.

She has also held positions on the Kent Branch Committee and was previously APTUK’s education officer instrumental in the development of the foundation practice framework.

Fidler said on Twitter that she is “looking forward to building on the strong foundations” laid by Fenn, APTUK members and directors.

The association has also appointed Ellen Williams as vice president. Williams is currently the director of regional pharmacy training at South West Medicines Information and Training.

Their appointments come after former president Tess Fenn announced her decision to step down from the role at the end of 2018.

The APTUK board of directors said in a statement that would like to “thank Tess for her outstanding commitment to the Association, her leadership as president and for her dedication to advancing the role of the pharmacy technician profession in the delivery of patient centred care”.

Both Fidler and Williams will take up their posts from 9 February 2019.
