Deal to fund community pharmacy contract in England delayed

Agreement on a multi-year funding deal for England’s community pharmacy contract will not be reached this month, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) has confirmed.

Negotiations are ongoing between the PSNC, NHS England and the Department of Health on a multi-year deal to replace annual agreements. The multi-year agreement will be based on the 2011 cost-of-service inquiry, which captured the costs of a range of pharmacy businesses.

In February 2014, PSNC chief executive Sue Sharpe said that she expected an agreement to be announced before the end of May 2014. However, Sharpe has now said that the “timetable has slipped” and she cannot give a definite date by which an agreement will be made, but that she hopes there will not be a prolonged delay.
