EMA publishes tool to track its progress to Amsterdam

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has produced a ‘tracker tool’ that follows progress of its move from London to Amsterdam.

The online tool shows targets and progress towards those targets across four categories: its permanent building; its temporary building; EMA staff; and financial, governance and legal.

It allows interested parties to check whether progress in each category is on track or delayed.

The EMA is due to move into a new, tailor-made, headquarters in the Zuidas business district of Amsterdam before the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019.

Initial plans for a temporary home, while the permanent offices were completed, were shelved in February 2018 after it was concluded that the intended accommodation was not “fully fit for purpose”.

EMA executive director, Guido Rasi, said Dutch authorities were asked to find alternative temporary offices. But the new temporary site was still “not an optimal solution” because it offered only half the space currently available in the EMA’s Canary Wharf headquarters, and as a result external facilities would have to be used for anything other than “core scientific meetings”.

The tracker will be updated every month.
