European Medicines Agency

EMA surveys pharmacists on their awareness of side-effect reporting

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has launched a survey for patients, pharmacists, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to test their awareness of the arrangements for reporting drug reactions.

The aim of the survey is to evaluate the awareness, attitudes and behaviours of patients and healthcare professionals in regard to reporting adverse drug reactions.

The survey covers all medicines, including those displaying a black inverted triangle in their package leaflet and summary of product characteristics (SmPC) to indicate that regulatory authorities deem that they require “additional monitoring”, for which patients and healthcare professionals are encouraged to report all suspected adverse reactions.

The questionnaire is available in all official European Union languages and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. It will be open for responses until 9 October 2017. The EMA and the European Commission will then analyse the submissions and report the results in 2018.
