Walgreens Boots Alliance confirms that 28 Boots stores have been closed
Walgreens Boots Alliance has confirmed that 28 Boots stores in the UK have been closed, out of a planned programme of 200 store closures.
The announcement was made in the company’s ‘Fiscal 2020 first quarter results’, published on 8 January 2020. The company also said that as part of a ‘Transformational Cost Management Program’, which aims to achieve savings of at least US$18bn by the financial year 2022, it would be carrying out an “end-to-end process review” across Boots UK.
A purpose-built pharmacy operating system that offers a “greater level of customer service and efficiency” has now been rolled out to more than 1,400 stores across the UK: more than half of the stores in the UK, the company said.
The company added that Boots UK pharmacy sales had seen an increase of 0.9% in the first quarter of 2020, which covers September to November 2019, compared to the first quarter of 2019 (US financial years), which was driven by higher NHS reimbursement and increased sales of services, but was “partially offset by lower prescription volume”.
