Codeine contraindicated in children

The use of codeine for cough and cold is now contraindicated in children aged under 12 years, and is not recommended in children and adolescents aged 12–18 years who have breathing difficulties. The Coordination Group for Mutual Recognition and Decentralised Procedures  Human of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) agreed to these new measures, following a review by the EMA’s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee.
