Having just started my third year as an MPharm student, I nowhave to start considering where to apply for a Pre-reg place. This time seemsto have come around very quickly and it seems so much has changed in this areasince I applied for university three years ago. Whilst pharmacy still offersexcellent career prospects, I think it fair to say Pre-reg places harder to getnow than ever before- especially in hospitals (an area I am particularlyinterested in).
This has got me thinking about how am I going to stand outfrom other applicants? I would say I have a fairly good CV for the stage I amat in my studies, but I have also started looking at other aspects of my lifewhere I have developed transferable skills. As one example, I am a committeemember for a charity which holds clinics to sign up volunteers for stem celldonation. In the past I have just viewed this as an enjoyable extra-curriculumactivity, but actually the communication skills and knowledge needed duringclinics may also help be become a better pharmacist. Who knows?
