Women in leadership: survive and thrive

Women in leadership, illustration of woman with superhero shadow

On International Women’s Day, I was delighted to announce that the RPS will be hosting a Women in Leadership event on 27 June 2018. I’m proud to be co-hosting the event with Nadia Bukhari, senior teaching fellow at UCL and RPS English pharmacy board member.

The event has two key themes: survive and thrive.

Survive

Here, we will discuss the challenges that women face across the profession and how we can, as individuals and organisations, address or prevent them. Our guest speakers will share their experiences:

  • Diane Leicester-Hallam, chief executive of Pharmacist Support;
  • Emma Davies, advanced pharmacist practictioner and research fellow at Swansea University;
  • Tase Oputu, projects lead pharmacist at Barts Health NHS trust.

Pharmacist Support will also be present throughout the day should anyone want to discuss privately any issues they have or support they require.

Thrive

In this session, we will showcase some of the exceptional female leaders we have across the profession, and discuss how we can ensure that female talent can achieve its full potential, now and in the future. Our guest speakers will discuss their careers and the challenges they have faced and overcome.

  • Catherine Duggan, chief executive of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP);
  • Clare Howard, clinical lead for medicines optimisation, Wessex Academic Health Science Network;
  • Neelam Sharma, chief pharmacy technician, Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.

The day will close with a networking reception, and Nadia and I will be making some exciting announcements.

Childcare is also available on site! This will be the first event that I have ever attended that accommodates parents.

We hope you can join us on 27 June 2018. Please note, this is NOT a women-only event; it is open to all.
