Free hearing tests are now available at a number of Co-operative Pharmacies, as part of an audiology service currently being rolled out in selected branches.
Participating branches will have an audiologist available twice a month to perform hearing tests in the pharmacy’s consultation room.
Patients identified as having hearing problems will then be offered advice on purchasing a hearing aid privately, or referred to their GP if they wish to be considered for an NHS device.
Hearing aids purchased privately through the service will be fitted within three weeks, and patients will be offered a 30-day trial period and a free follow-up appointment at the pharmacy.
The Co-operative Pharmacy plans to make the service available in 80 of its branches across the UK by September 2009.
