Darren Ashcroft is the winner of the 2009 BPC Practice Research Award, the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust has announced.
The award, which is sponsored by the trust and presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to pharmacy practice research and who has the potential to become a leader in their field, will be presented at the British Pharmaceutical Conference on 7 September 2009.
Dr Ashcroft is reader in medicines usage and safety at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Manchester. He will receive a cheque for £1,000.
Commenting on the work that led to his award, Dr Ashcroft said: “Drug-related morbidity represents a substantial burden on limited healthcare resources and my early research, which focused on quality and safety in pharmacy practice, has matured into a major research theme. This award recognises my work in the UK and its development into a wider European context.”
