Careers

Interesting positions offered in industry

From Mr R. E. B. Rollo, MRPharmS

With reference to your news feature on students' views of the profession (PJ, 5/12 January, p11), is it not odd that students seem to be concerned only about careers "tied to the dispensary" with the status of a shopkeeper and little or no job satisfaction. Of course, owning and running your own successful pharmacy can have enormous job satisfaction, with ample financial reward, but nobody seems to remember that the United Kingdom has a large and successful international pharmaceutical industry which can offer many interesting positions to pharmaceutical chemists in marketing, product development, production, quality control and research, with the opportunity to rise to senior manager or director status. The money is not bad either.

R. E. B. Rollo
North Berwick, East Lothian
