PJ’s Lin-Nam Wang scoops Avicenna media award

By News team

Senior contributions editor at The Pharmaceutical Journal Lin-Nam Wang has won the Avicenna media award for senior reporter of the year 2012.

Presenting the award to Miss Wang at the Royal Society of Chemistry in London today (25 January 2013), clinical network lead for NHS Lambeth Ash Soni congratulated her not only for covering a wide range of issues but for providing support and guidance for pharmacists, as well as bringing pharmacy issues under the national media spotlight.

Speaking at the fourth Avicenna media awards, the company’s chief executive officer Salim Jetha highlighted the major changes currently being witnessed within the NHS in England as it tries to deliver quality outcomes within a squeezed budget. He praised the pharmacy press for playing an exceptional part in trying to untangle this complex subject.

Mr Soni stressed that, from 1 April 2013, enhanced services contracts that are currently in place and working well need to stay in place for another year so that clinical commissioning groups have a chance to review them properly. He also said the profession needs to think about how it can get a bigger chunk of the £5.45bn public health budget.

Mr Soni challenged members of the pharmacy press to report pharmacy service outcomes, adding: "The more we can show the value pharmacy brings, the more likely we are to be commissioned in the future."
