PJ’s Lin-Nam Wang takes home Avicenna media award for second year running

Lin-Nam Wang, The Pharmaceutical Journal’s senior contributions editor, was named senior reporter of the year for the second year running at the Avicenna media awards, held at The Royal Society in London today (31 January 2014).

Presenting the award, Avicenna chief executive officer Salim Jetha commended Miss Wang for her writing on a broad range of issues, from clinical topics and revalidation to counterfeit medicines and global pharmacy.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr Jetha asked what is happening to appreciation in society today. He argued that a blame culture has been created, with “how to complain” notices in surgeries and other healthcare premises. Instead, he said, he would like to see such notices revised to say “compliments, comments and complaints”. He challenged the pharmacy press to run a campaign for pharmacists to send in just two “success stories” each. “That way, we’ll have a powerful dossier,” he said.

Former editor of The Journal, Douglas Simpson, was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the event.

  • I was really pleased to
read on PJ online that Lin-Nam had been awarded the Avicenna media award for
the second year running.  Lin-Nam’s articles in the PJ on a wide range of
issues are always informative and enjoyable to read.  Furthermore, her ability to simplify complex
matters related to pharmacy for the layperson on BBC news and in newspapers not
only raises the pharmacists’ profile, but also engages the public in
    pharmaceutical matters.

    Congratulations to Lin-Nam
on a very well deserved award.
