Family to take civil action after dispensing error death

Civil action will be taken by relatives of a woman who died after a pharmacist made a dispensing error
Relatives of a woman who died after a dispensing error are to take civil action, the family’s lawyers have confirmed.
However, the family has not yet decided whether it will make a claim against the dispensing locum pharmacist, Jhoots Pharmacy in Bristol, or both parties, a spokesperson for lawyers Neill Hudgell said.
Dawn Britton, who had Crohn’s disease, died after taking gliclazide tablets dispensed in error in August 2013, according to the conclusions of the Avon coroner at her inquest.
The family’s announcement comes a week after the Crown Prosecution Service ruled out any action against the pharmacist.
The General Pharmaceutical Council’s fitness-to-practise proceedings are continuing.
