GPhC proposes a rise in fees

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has announced that it will consult on increases to its fees.

At its council meeting on 11 October 2018, the regulator for pharmacies, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises said it would begin a consultation in October 2018 on an increase to some of its fees for 2019–2020.

In the consultation, the GPhC will propose to increase its entry and annual renewal fees for pharmacists by £7 to £257; pharmacy technicians by £3 to £121; and pharmacy premises by £21 to £262.

This is the first time the GPhC has proposed an increase in fees since 2015. The regulator said its proposed fees for pharmacy professionals “are still lower” than the fees charged in 2011.

“For the first time, the proposals would make the fee for registered pharmacies higher than the fee for pharmacists,” the GPhC added in a statement.
