At least 14 training providers recorded a 100% pass rate for their preregistration pharmacist trainees who took the registration assessment for the first time in June 2016, according to data published by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Seven acute hospital trusts — five in London — which between them trained 105 pharmacists, gained a 100% pass rate for their first-time candidates, including: Barts Health NHS Trust; Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust; Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust; King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; and London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. Outside London, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust achieved 100% pass rates for their first time candidates.
Community pharmacy chains with a 100% pass rate include: HA McParland; PCT Healthcare; Superdrug Stores; Tesco Stores; Kamsons Pharmacy; Well; and X-Pharm, which between them trained 132 pharmacists.
The British pharmacy regulator published the data on 3 October 2016, which reveals individual pass rates for training providers with more than 12 preregistration pharmacist trainees.
Boots UK, which supported 362 trainees — more than any other training provider — recorded a pass rate of 97.5%. The second largest training provider, Lloyds Pharmacy, had 137 candidates sitting the assessment for the first time and recorded a 98.5% pass rate, while Day Lewis, with 57 candidates sitting the exam for the first time, recorded a 98.3% pass rate.
Other community-based training providers with more than 12 trainees included Cohens and Paydens, which achieved 96.3% and 94.1% pass rates, respectively.
The data were published a month after the GPhC reported that hospital trainees continue to outperform their colleagues in community in the registration assessment.
