Women now outnumber men as members of the statutory committees run by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), according to latest figures.

Results of the regulator’s 2018 diversity survey show that 59% of its investigating committee, fitness-to-practise committee and registration appeals committee are female, up from 48% in 2015.

The number of non-white committee members increased from 21% in 2015 to 26% in 2018.

Results from the GPhC survey also show that the proportion of committee members who declared they have a disability has fallen in the past three years, from 12% in 2015 to 5% in 2018.

A diversity report, which was discussed at the GPhC full-council meeting on 11 October 2018, said: “The appointments committee is, as always, aware that more needs to done to attract high-calibre applicants from underrepresented groups.”

Recent recruitment campaigns — which have included Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin — were designed to attract as diverse a group of applicants as possible, it added.
