Pharmacists asked to encourage patients to walk for ten minutes each day

Public Health England (PHE) is encouraging community pharmacy teams to get involved in its campaign to motivate adults to complete ten minutes of brisk walking each day.

The campaign, which launches on 4 June 2018, aims to help adults get healthier and more active during the summer months using a free smartphone app called ‘Active 10’.

Community pharmacy teams can get involved by way of a new PHE toolkit which aims to aid conversations with patients about the benefits of increasing their physical activity. The toolkit contains a poster and conversation starters, and can be ordered through the PHE Campaign Resource Centre.

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee suggested that pharmacies working towards Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP) Level 1 status could consider participating in the campaign to help demonstrate that they meet several of the required HLP Level 1 quality criteria.
