Accessing SPCs

The list of changes to summaries of product characteristics is not exhaustive. SPCs for a number of medicines licensed in the UK are available online

 

SPC changes

Metopirone

The shelf life for Metopirone (metyprapone; Alliance Pharmaceuticals) capsules 250mg is now three years, according to the product’s updated summary of product characteristics. The shelf life was previously five years.

Rotarix

Rotarix (human rotavirus RIX4414 strain; GlaxoSmithKline) will have a new formulation from 30 September 2010.

The new formulation will be a pre-filled oral applicator containing a liquid suspension and, unlike the previous formulation, does not need to be reconstituted before use.

Truvada

Truvada (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, emtricitabine; Gilead) should not be given concomitantly with other medicinal products that contain emtricitabine or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, or with adefovir dipivoxil, according to the product’s updated summary of product characteristics.

Supply issues

Goldshield products

Marevan (warfarin sodium) tablets 5mg and stelazine (trifluoperazine) tablets 1mg are now available from Goldshield.

Synarel nasal spray

Synarel (nafarelin acetate; Pharmacia) nasal spray 4ml and 8ml are currently unavailable from Pfizer. Pfizer expects stock to be available again in the last quarter of 2010.
