Yvonne Perrie takes over as chairman of Pharmacy Schools Council
Yvonne Perrie, head of pharmacy at Aston University, took up her new role as chairman of the Pharmacy Schools Council today (21 January 2014).
Professor Perrie is expected to play a key part in the ongoing discussions around the reform of pharmacy education and the number of students studying for the Master of Pharmacy qualification. In a statement issued earlier today, Professor Perrie said she would ensure that the UK’s 28 pharmacy schools continued to influence discussions around reforms affecting the profession.
Professor Perrie joined Aston University in 2000 as a lecturer and was appointed chair of drug delivery in 2007. She also holds a number of editorial roles in pharmacy and pharmacy-related journals. Professor Perrie received the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Pharmaceutical Scientist of the Year award in 2012 for her contribution to developing a new tuberculosis vaccine.
As chairman of the council, which represents the collective interests of the UK’s 28 schools of pharmacy, Professor Perrie succeeds John Smart, academic director of pharmacy at the University of Brighton.
