It could be about an error you missed, a question you should have asked or an unexpectedly positive outcome to a interaction you will never forget — some patients teach a valuable lesson that endures for an entire professional career.

The Pharmaceutical Journal is now accepting entries for its 2019 writing competition, and we want you to write about the experiences that have shaped you as a pharmacist in 500 words or fewer. It can be a poem, a short lyrical piece or a story, and the best entries will be published in The Pharmaceutical Journal.

The winner will receive an Amazon Fire 8 tablet, and there will be a special prize for the best entry from a preregistration trainee/pharmacy student.

Good luck — we very much look forward to reading all your entries.

Competition rules

  • The competition is open to all pharmacists, preregistration trainees and pharmacy students.
  • Entries must be emailed to our opinion editor, Abigail James, at: by 28 June 2019. Entries should be no longer than 500 words, and include your name, job title, where you work and a portrait photograph.
