Alistair Burt: 'pharmacists are an untapped resource'

I can't believe the PJ letter the minister off so lightly with so-obviously pre-secripted answer presumably drafted by his civil-servants! As anyone who follows health policy knows, the 16% increased risk of death at weekends is highly-controversial and based on the thinnest of evidence. Moreover, given the desperate shortage of doctors, more working weekends means less working weekdays. Most commentators would say the pledge to increase the number of GPs is simply unachievable. Turning to pharmacy: Not a single question on Control of Pharmacy Student Numbers? Nothing on the failure to reform the community pharmacy contract, introduce a national, pharmacy-led common ailments service or even a demand for "write" access to the SCR. To paraphrase Dennis Healey it looks like the minister was savaged by a dead sheep... "nil points" from me I'm afraid
