Antibiotic prescribing guidance

18 February 2015: A consultation on a new NICE guideline for health and social care staff to help tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) was portrayed by the media as health professionals “policing” each other about prescribing levels.

Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) spokesperson Neal Patel broadened out the topic by talking to LBC radio about current levels of AMR, reasons for it and research into new antibiotics. He said: “Pharma companies are now working on R&D collaboratively, along with universities, so pooling that expertise may deliver results more quickly than in the past.”
