British adults most likely to abuse stimulant prescription drugs

4 August 2016: Following a report based on new survey results that indicate British adults are the most likely in Europe to abuse stimulant prescription drugs such as Ritalin, Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) spokesperson Neal Patel was interviewed by Talk Radio and said: “We’re always concerned about the levels of misuse of medicines that do exist and obviously we want to do everything we can to make sure medicines use in the UK is as safe as it possibly can be. [This study is] talking about people who may have borrowed a tablet, a painkiller from a colleague or a friend or a member of their family, so it’s not perhaps the addiction particularly that they’re focusing on, it’s the idea that people are taking prescription medicines without them being prescribed directly for them… but of course the numbers they’re talking about in this study… are worrying.”
