Double win for BNF app at the British Interactive Media Awards

The BNF app has won several awards, including the overall winner in the ‘Website and Apps’ category, at a ceremony held by the British Interactive Media Awards

The British National Formulary (BNF) app, launched by Pharmaceutical Press in July 2017, has won two prizes at the 2018 British Interactive Media (BIMA) Awards.

During a ceremony held in London on 13 September 2018, the app received the award for ‘Impact in Website and Apps’, before also receiving the overall BIMA Advance Award for Websites and Apps.

In attendance on the night were Karen Baxter, director of the BNF at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), and Paul Jervis-Heath and Chloe Heath, founder and director, respectively, of Modern Human, which created the app.

Jervis-Heath said: “Until last year, the BNF was only available to clinicians through either hard-copy reference books or static online versions. This left prescribers manually checking and cross-checking information — a time-intensive process.

“Working closely with clinicians, our aim was to provide a solution that genuinely helped them in their daily interactions with patients,” he added.

Baxter said that she was “delighted the BNF app has been recognised by these awards as a very innovative product that is having a real impact on the NHS, clinicians, and patients”.

Modern Human estimate that since the app’s launch, it has been assisted in the prescription of medicines to over 10 million patients.
