Interactions between alcohol and sedatives

5 August 2014: As part of The Daily Mail series that looks at food and drink interactions with medicines, Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) spokesman Neal Patel was interviewed. The article explained that because alcohol is a depressant, it should not be consumed with certain drugs, such as sleeping tablets or strong painkillers including morphine. “If you take a combination, then you may in extreme cases become unconscious,” said Patel. “One glass of wine and a sedating antihistamine might make you do things you wouldn’t normally.”
