Karen Baxter has been confirmed as managing director (MD) of The Pharmaceutical Press (PhP). She is the first trained pharmacist to take up the position.

Baxter has spent the past eight months as PhP’s interim MD, after Alina Lourie stepped down in 2018. Prior to that, she was the department’s director of content strategy.

“When I started my career as a pharmacist, I didn’t ever imagine I’d lead the publishing arm of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) that delivers titles such as the BNF, Martindale and Stockley, which were so fundamental to my practice,” said Baxter, adding that she was looking forward to “ensuring a strong future for these titles and for my professional body”.

Paul Bennett, chief executive of the RPS, said that he was “confident that under Karen’s leadership, PhP will continue to lead the way in medicines information and help the RPS achieve our vision of becoming the world leader in the safe and effective use of medicines”.
