Robbie Turner, chief executive of Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire, has been appointed the new director for England at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS). His role will be involve supporting the work of the RPS English Pharmacy Board and directing its programme to develop the profession in England, while supporting and engaging members across the nation.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining the RPS and am looking forward to working with the English Pharmacy Board to support and further develop the role of pharmacists,” says Turner. “I have always been impressed by the work the RPS has achieved in advancing the profession of pharmacy and am very excited to be able to help contribute to building on this.”

Turner will be leaving his current role as chief executive of Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire, an organisation that represents over 560 local community pharmacies. He is also a trustee of Pharmacist Support, an independent charity working for pharmacists and their families, and has previously worked in management positions for Cohen’s Chemists and the Assura Group.

“Robbie brings with him a tremendous range of experience and skills rooted in a deep knowledge of pharmacy that will really help the RPS in England serve members well and contribute powerfully to national health policy,” says Helen Gordon, chief executive of the RPS.

Sandra Gidley, chair of the RPS English Pharmacy Board, says she is looking forward to working with Turner to deliver results for RPS members. “Robbie is an exceptional local leader, who has already impressed me and my colleagues with his passion and commitment for the profession,” she adds.

Turner, who will take up his post on 16 January 2017, replaces Howard Duff who left the RPS earlier in 2016.

During the search for Duff’s replacement, Catherine Duggan, RPS’ director of professional development, acted as interim director for England.
