Clare Morrison has been appointed the new director for Scotland at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).

Morrison, who was awarded an MBE for services to healthcare in 2018, has worked across a variety of pharmacy sectors and is currently the national lead for the Scottish government’s ‘NHS Near Me’ video consulting service. She will take up her new post on 21 September 2020.

Prior to this, she worked for NHS Highland, where she developed a number of pharmaceutical care and medicines safety initiatives that have been spread across Scotland, including leading the Scottish patient safety programme’s pharmacy pilot in Highland.

Morrison was made an RPS Fellow in 2017.

As RPS director for Scotland, Morrison will be responsible for national policy development, professional advocacy and member engagement across Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Pharmacy Board.

“I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as director for Scotland, and to build on the great work of Alex [MacKinnon] and the RPS team in Edinburgh,” said Morrison.

“I believe now, more than ever, that pharmacy has an exciting future. Every profession needs a strong professional body, so it is a huge honour to be appointed to this role and to be part of achieving the RPS mission of putting pharmacy at the forefront of healthcare.

“I am really looking forward to being part of RPS, working with other professional and patient organisations and, most importantly, with every pharmacy team across Scotland to realise the opportunities the future holds,” she said.

Paul Bennett, chief executive of the RPS, said he was “delighted” that Morrison would be joining the organisation.

“Clare brings extensive experience of working in partnership with a wide variety of organisations across different sectors of pharmacy and the NHS in Scotland,” he said.

“She has worked at both national and international levels and I’m delighted she’s joining us to ensure we are in a strong position to deliver on behalf of members, the profession and patients.”

Jonathan Burton, chair of the RPS Scottish Pharmacy Board, said he was “excited” to be working with Morrison to progress the board’s priorities for the profession.

“Her experience across different sectors of pharmacy combined with her understanding of digital delivery and quality improvement will create opportunities to improve the lives of patients in Scotland,” he added.
