The chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s (RPS) Welsh board, Mair Davies, has been appointed as the Society’s director for Wales.
Davies steps down from the Welsh Pharmacy Board to take up the new role with immediate effect. The board’s vice-chair, Suzanne Scott-Thomas, will be acting chair until a new chair is elected at the board’s next meeting on 15 October 2015.
Davies has worked as a consultant in professional education for a number of institutions, including the Welsh Centre for Pharmacy Professional Education at Cardiff University. She was elected as the board’s chair in 2011, having served as vice-chair since 2010.
“It has been an honour and a truly inspiring experience to serve as chair of the Welsh Pharmacy Board during the evolutionary journey of the RPS into a professional leadership body,” says Davies, who thanked her colleagues on the board, the Assembly and RPS staff. “I now move on to the role of director for Wales, where I look forward to working with the chair, the Society’s Welsh Pharmacy Board, staff members and key stakeholders to provide leadership for the profession in Wales.”
RPS president Ash Soni says: “Mair has been an extremely effective chair and contributed to the development of pharmacy in Wales. Her involvement across Great Britain has helped create the RPS as the organisation it is today. I look forward to her further support in developing the role of pharmacists in the increasingly complex health and care environment to providing the highest levels of care to the public.”
