RPS Elections 2017: Candidates face questions in hustings webinar

Thirteen candidates for this year’s English and Scottish Pharmacy Board elections took part in a hustings webinar hosted by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society on the evening of 16 May 2017.

Candidates in attendance were Martin Astbury, Jonathan Burton, Mark Collins, Jane Devenish, Ross Ferguson, David Gallier-Harris, Sandra Gidley, Hala Jawad, Brendon Jiang, Alasdair Angus Macintyre, Robert Severn, Deborah Alice Stafford and Altaf Vaiya.

Those unable to attend were Ewan Black, Nadia Burkhari, Richard John Daniszewski, Ian Fraser, Ben Merriman, Mahendra Gulabbhai Patel, Ailsa Power, Stephen Riley, Ashok Soni and Sally Omolara Rose.

The webinar began with candidates being given one minute to outline their campaign stance. Written campaign statements from all candidates — including those not present — were also displayed for attendees to read. After this introduction, Neal Patel and Heidi Wright put a number of questions to the candidates, including:

  • How will you show leadership in working with other pharmacy professionals, such as technicians, for the benefit of patients?
  • Have you began their Faculty journey?
  • How would you be a role model for the profession?
  • What are you doing on regular basis to support members and the profession?

The webinar was recorded in full, and is available now on the RPS website at

Voting in the 2017 Pharmacy Board Elections closes at 5pm on 26 May 2017.
